StepSafe Partner Terms

Version 1.0, effective October 7, 2026

Download the Approved Claims sheet (PDF)

These terms are an agreement between you and StepSafe Technologies Inc. (“StepSafe”, “we”, “us”). As a StepSafe partner, you share your own link or code. People who buy from the StepSafe shop with it get a discount, and you earn a commission.

This program is separate from the referral program that ran during our Kickstarter campaign, which ended when the campaign closed on September 3, 2026. Nothing from that program carries over, and its terms (kept at stepsafekids.com/referral-terms) do not apply here.

1. Who can join

  • You must be 18 or older and able to enter a contract where you live.
  • You can join from any country, but StepSafe only sells and ships to the United States and Canada, so only buyers there can order through your link.
  • StepSafe may accept or decline any application, and may end any partnership at any time.

You do not need to be a StepSafe customer. One partner account per person. You agree to these terms when you sign up at stepsafekids.com/partners.

You get a link (stepsafekids.com/r/YOURCODE), a code, and a private dashboard link by email. The dashboard link works without a password, so keep it private. If you lose it, ask for a new one on the partners page, and the old one stops working.

2. How you earn

You earn a 15% commission on orders placed through your link or code. It is worked out on the order subtotal for eligible products after the partner discount, not counting taxes or shipping. Buyers who use your link or code get 5% off eligible products.

Example: a buyer orders US$200 of eligible products with your code. The discount takes US$10 off, they pay US$190, and you earn 15% of US$190, which is US$28.50. Commission is earned in the currency of the order (US or Canadian dollars) and rounded down to the cent.

First order only. Commission applies to the buyer's first order only. There is no commission on later monthly subscription payments, renewals, or add-ons bought later.

A buyer's first order is the first one they place through any StepSafe partner's link or code. We recognize a buyer by their email address. If that first order is cancelled or fully refunded, their next order through a partner link or code counts as their first. Buyers still get 5% off later orders with your link or code; those orders show on your dashboard with no commission.

Eligible products, when they are in the order at checkout: devices, Lifetime Pro, packs, bundles, prepaid service, StepSafe Care and StepSafe Protect, additional devices, accessories, and the Premium Digital Safety Kit.

Excluded from both the discount and the commission:

  • Donations (Donate to the mission).
  • Sponsor a Device.
  • Gift a Lifetime.
  • Buy One, Sponsor One. It is sold as one product at one price, so the whole product is excluded. A buyer who wants the discount on their own device can buy the device and Sponsor a Device separately.

3. How an order is credited to you

  • When someone clicks your link, we save your code on their device for 60days. If they click another partner's link later, that partner gets the credit instead (last click wins).
  • A code typed at checkout always wins over a link.
  • One discount per order. If the buyer uses a store coupon instead, the coupon wins and the order earns no commission.
  • If the buyer removes the partner discount in their cart, the order is not credited to you.
  • We can only credit orders where your link or code reached checkout. If a buyer blocks or clears cookies, uses another device, or forgets your code, we cannot credit the order later.

4. When commission becomes payable

Commission becomes payable 30 days after the device is delivered. Each order moves through these stages on your dashboard:

  1. Waiting to ship. The order is placed. StepSafe devices are pre-orders, and a pre-order can be cancelled for a refund until it ships.
  2. Shipped. The order is on its way.
  3. Delivered. The order has arrived. The 30 days start on the delivery date.
  4. Payable. 30 days after delivery, the commission is yours.
  5. Paid. We have sent it to you.

Devices ship in early 2027, so we expect the first payouts in 2027. An order with nothing to ship (for example, only the digital Safety Kit) is delivered when it is placed, and becomes payable 30 days later.

Orders that are cancelled, refunded, charged back or fraudulent earn no commission. If part of an order is refunded, the commission is reduced in proportion. If we have already paid you commission on an order that is later refunded, charged back or found to be fraudulent, we may deduct it from your future payouts.

5. How you get paid

We pay monthly, in the first week of the month, by Interac e-Transfer (Canada), PayPal or Wise, to the details you give us on your dashboard. Partners outside Canada are paid by PayPal or Wise. Commission is paid in the currency of the order (US or Canadian dollars). We cover the transfer fees.

We pay once your payable balance reaches US$25, or CA$25 for commission earned in Canadian dollars. Smaller balances carry over to the next month until they reach the minimum.

It is your job to keep your payout details correct. We email you whenever they change. We cannot pay without them, and unpaid commission stays owed to you until you add them.

6. Your own purchases

You cannot earn commission on your own purchases or on purchases by your household (people who live with you), and your code gives you no discount. This includes orders with your email address and orders that are clearly by you or for you under another name or email. We cannot always spot these automatically. When we do, we cancel the commission, even if it already shows on your dashboard.

7. You must tell people you earn a commission

Every post, video, message or page that includes your link or code must clearly say you earn a commission. Put it before or next to the link, in words people will actually see. For example:

“I earn a commission if you buy through my link.”

On video, say it out loud as well as in the caption. Hashtags like #ad or #affiliate are fine in addition, not instead.

This is required by law in Canada (the Competition Act) and the United States (the Federal Trade Commission's rules on endorsements).

8. What you can and cannot say

Only use claims from the Approved Claims list at the end of these terms. If it is not on the list, do not say it. You can also keep the list as a one-page PDF.

Never make medical or therapeutic claims, never promise that StepSafe will keep a child safe, and never present yourself as working for StepSafe. You are a partner, not StepSafe itself.

9. Protecting children and families

  • Never post a photo or video of a child without the parent's clear permission.
  • Never show or mention a child's home, street, school, or real-time location.
  • Never collect personal information from families on StepSafe's behalf.

10. Not allowed

  • Unsolicited bulk email, texts or direct messages (spam). Canada's anti-spam law (CASL) and US law apply. Only message people who know you or have agreed to hear from you.
  • Bidding on “StepSafe” or “StepSafe Kids”, or misspellings of them, in search ads.
  • Using StepSafe in a domain name, username or page name, or choosing a code that looks official.
  • Posting your link or discount on coupon or deal aggregator sites.
  • Offering any extra discount, gift or cash back that StepSafe has not approved.
  • Targeting or marketing to children.
  • Editing StepSafe's logo or product images, or creating ads that look like they come from StepSafe.

11. Your status

You are an independent partner, not an employee, contractor, agent or representative of StepSafe, and you cannot make promises on our behalf. You choose when and whether to promote StepSafe. There are no hours, schedules, quotas or targets.

You are responsible for your own taxes. StepSafe may ask for tax information required by law before paying you. For example, partners in the United States may be asked for an IRS Form W-9 once their commission reaches US$600 in a calendar year.

12. Breaking these terms

If you break these terms, especially the disclosure, claims and child-safety rules, StepSafe may withhold your unpaid commission and end your partnership. Ending a partnership turns off your link and code.

13. Changes, and ending the program

StepSafe may update these terms. We will email you before changes take effect, and continuing as a partner means you accept them. We may also ask you to accept new terms on your dashboard.

We can change the commission rate or the discount for future orders. We will tell you by email before the change takes effect. Orders already placed keep the rates that applied when they were placed.

We can end the program at any time. If we do, eligible orders placed before the end date still earn commission, paid on the normal schedule.

14. Privacy

Your dashboard never shows who bought: only the order date, your commission and its status. We keep your name, email, country and payout details to run the program and pay you, as described in our privacy policy.

15. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.
