Prizes are verified after payout, against the pledge manager survey question "Did someone refer you? Enter their code", and settle after that. The public leaderboard is indicative until then.
Counts are transcribed by hand from Kickstarter's referrer report, which attributes a pledge to the link it arrived through. Someone who hears about us from you and then finds the campaign on their own will not appear here, which is another reason the survey settles it.
Prizes are verified before they are awarded. We compare survey responses against referral link activity, and we may ask for a brief explanation where the two do not match.
