STEPSAFE KIDS: KEY FACTS WITH SOURCES

Every figure below is traceable to a named source. Please cite the original
source rather than StepSafe Kids where one is given.

PRODUCT
- A clip-on cellular GPS tracker for children who wander: real-time location
with updates as often as every 20 seconds, geofenced safe zones with entry
and exit alerts, location history, battery level reporting, and a remotely
  triggered audible alarm.
- Privacy by design: the microphone is permanently disabled and cannot listen,
record, or be switched on by anyone, including StepSafe. This is also what
makes the device acceptable in schools.
- Hardware manufactured by JIMI IoT on an FCC and CE certified platform.
Canadian ISED certification in progress with Nemko.
- Embedded SIM included. No separate phone plan required, and no roaming fees
  to the family.
- The tracker works across the United States and Canada. That is the coverage
  we support.
- Shipping: primary markets are the United States and Canada. Australia, UK,
EU and other countries depend on final backer counts and regulatory
  certifications completing.
- Battery: up to 4 days on a single charge, roughly twice-weekly charging.

LAUNCH AND PRICING
- Kickstarter: live since August 4, 2026. Estimated delivery: February 2027.
- Kickstarter pricing: from $99 USD (Early Bird, limited to 200 backers) with a
$9.99 USD/month Founder's Price locked for life, or $249 USD once for Lifetime Pro
  with no subscription ever.
- Planned retail after the campaign: $149 USD device plus $14.99 USD/month.

THE PROBLEM (cite the original sources, not StepSafe)
- Roughly half of children with autism attempt to elope from a safe
environment. Source: Anderson C, Law JK, Daniels A, Rice C, Mandell DS,
Hagopian L, Law PA. "Occurrence and Family Impact of Elopement in Children
with Autism Spectrum Disorders." Pediatrics. 2012;130(5):870-877. Note: the
49% figure is drawn from a self-selected online registry sample and describes
children who attempted to elope at least once after age 4. A later
nationally representative study (Kiely et al., PLOS ONE 2016) found 34.6%
  over a 12-month window.
- Accidental drowning accounts for 71% of deaths following wandering incidents
among children with autism. Source: National Autism Association, six-year
mortality study of autism wandering and elopement.
- Children with autism are 160 times as likely to die from drowning as the
general pediatric population. Source: Guan J, Li G. "Injury Mortality in
Individuals With Autism." American Journal of Public Health.
2017;107(5):791-793, as reported by Columbia University Mailman School of
  Public Health.

COMPETITIVE CONTEXT
- AngelSense subscription plans are $44.99/month on the annual plan,
  $49.99/month on a one-year contract, and $64.99/month month-to-month,
equating to roughly $540 to $780 USD per year, with the device kit offered free
with a plan. Pricing verified at angelsense.com on August 5, 2026. A dated
screenshot is published at stepsafekids.com/pricing-sources. The Canadian
  storefront lists the same three plans at CA$69.99 / CA$79.99 / CA$99.99
(roughly CA$840 to CA$1,200 a year), captured July 20, 2026. These are two
regional price lists, not a price change. All StepSafe comparisons use the US
figures, because StepSafe prices are quoted in USD.
